About the Bio-NP

From manure to fertilizer on your own property.

High reduction of nitrogen emissions.

Would you like to produce fertilizer with your own manure? Here is how you can! Through the Bio-NP you can upgrade your manure to fertilizer in the form of ammonium sulfate. An investment which becomes easily profitable when you have a manure surplus. As an added side effect of using fresh manure, the emissions of nitrogen into te surrounding area are almost halved. Especially in an area close to a natural reserve, where there is a need of reducing the nitrogen emissions, this technology offers a good solution.

The Bio-NP technology offers a solution for the farm's manure surplus. This technology processes the animal manure into fertilizer and with that closes the nutrients cycle on the farm. Thereby wastage of valuable nutriets is prevented and the need to purchase fertilizers reduced to almost zero.

Tested in the field

The first installation is online. The manure of 160 cows, supplemented with the manure of third parties, is fermented and through the Bio-NP upgraded to ammonium sulfate, which is a recognized fertilizer. This pilot was carried out by CCS and ProfiNutrients.

In which situation will the Bio-NP be profitable?

This installation offers solutions for companies which have a nitrogen surplus.

  • Available from 3.000 m³ manure per year

  • Suitable up till 20.000 m³ manure per year

  • Upgrades 65%* of the manure's nitrogen into fertilizer

  • Also profitable without a surplus* through production of your own fertilizer and the reduction of nitrogen emissions

*Depending on the input and the manure's levels

In which situation will the Bio-NP be profitable?

How does the Bio-NP work?

There are 3 process steps:

1. Fermentation(optional)

The (day fresh) manure is fermented in a farm-scale digester. Day fresh manure is important in order to keep the nitrogen emissions as low as possible and the profits as high as possible.

2. Separation

The digestate(fermented manure) is separated into thin and thick fraction. The thick fraction contains a lot of nitrogen and organic matter. This thick fraction is stored and can be applied on the land around the farm and in case of a nitrogen surplus, has to be partly disposed of. The thin fraction is processed further.

3. Nitrogen stripper
By raising the temperature and pH, the ammoniacal nitrogen is stripped from the thin fraction. This turns the nitrogen into ammonia, which is a gas substance. The air and ammonia is then pumped into a gas washer, as known from pig farms. The ammonia reacts with an acid and turns into, for example, ammonium sulfate, which is a substance that can be sold as fertilizer.

The nitrogen high fluid fertilizer is a recognized fertilizer, depending on the acid used (ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate). This can be used locally or on ones own property.

The effluent is a potash-rich thin fraction, still holding some level of nitrogen and phosfate. This can be applied on the farmland as well.

The added value of the Bio-NP

What is the output?

After processing the manure, 3 fractions remain:

1. A potah-rich thin fraction which still contains nitrogen and phosfate. This can be applied on the farmland;

2. A phosfate-rich thick fraction containing high levels of organic matter. This thick fraction can be applied on the farmland.

3. A nitrogen high fluid fertilizer is a recognized fertilizer, depending on the acid used (ammonium sulfate or ammonium nitrate).

What benifits holds the Bio-NP for you?

- Manure is turned from cost post into profit;

- The nutrients cyce is more closed since you will have much less need to purchase fertilizer;

- Almost halving the nitrogen emissions through the use of fresh manure;

- A full automatic system;

- No more dependency on the capricious manure market.
